During Surgery There are three different approaches to the surgery: abdominal, hysteroscopic or laparoscopic.
The abdominal approach requires a larger incision in the abdomen, however, this allows for better visualisation and allows more complex surgery to be performed. The other approaches involve the insertion of cameras and smaller instruments through the vagina and abdomen respectively.
In all approaches the fibroid tissue will be teased away from the regular uterine tissue. The incisions will then be closed using sutures.
After Surgery The abdominal approach requires a larger hospital stay of around 2 days. The other approaches are day cases and full recovery should take a couple of days. Follow up should be around 4 weeks from surgery.
